Since Mondays decision by UNESCO to list Preah Vihear temple as a Cambodian 1-monks.jpg World Heritage Site, the Kingdoms nationalist rapture has subsided just enough to allow for more pragmatic thoughts of the pay-off. Senior Cambodian Peoples Party lawmaker Cheam Yeap said July 10 that he expected the listing of the 11th-century Hindu temple, which had long been hotly disputed by Thailand, to result in a major boon for the ruling party in the July 27 general election. "I am at Prey Veng near the Vietnam border right now. We told the voters of the success of Samdech Prime Minister Hun Sen," he told the Post. Yeap said Hun Sen deserved credit for the world bodys decision because he had sent a letter to UNESCO requesting the designation six years ago. "There is no doubt that Samdech Hun Sen is a CPP leader," he boasted. Yeap said Prey Veng residents, particularly farmers, were showing their support for the CPP and were elated and proud of their premier, as was he. "I cried in front of my wife once I heard UNESCO had made a decision on the temple." Khmer-language newspapers this week featured numerous advertisements placed by CPP officials, congratulating Hun Sen, Deputy Prime Minister Sok An and CPP President Chea Sim on the world bodys decision. However, Koul Panha, director of the Committee for Free and Fair Elections, a Cambodian election monitor, questioned any exclusive claim to ownership of the temple victory and discouraged politicization of the site. "I think all political parties can use Preah Vihear as a means of attracting voters, but no one party or group should get the credit alone," he said. "I think Preah Vihear temple is the pride of all Cambodians, as well as the political parties. If only one party makes political gains off of Preah Vihear temple, I am afraid there will be an internal dispute that will lead to different attitudes about the temple." Sam Rainsy Party lawmaker Son Chhay downplayed the ruling partys hand in resolving the dispute with Thailand over ownership of the territory surrounding the temple, which for years had been the most significant obstacle to its listing. "It is the normal obligation of a government to do this. It was not the special job of the CPP," Chhay said. Cambodias tourism sector, on the other hand, is less concerned with political points. Ho Vandy, president of the Cambodian Association of Travel Agents, said on July 8 that 162 tour operators have begun promotion plans for package tours of Cambodias expanding heritage corridor. They will advertise in about 100 countries. Vandy said the proposed package includes stops at Angkor Wat, Koh Ker temple in western Preah Vihear province, Preah Vihear temple, and Wat Phu, another Khmer temple in Laos. But the immediate concern, Vandy said, should be developing Cambodias overland routes to Preah Vihear, which at present are rutted and jarring, making the temple far more accessible from the nearby Thai border. Then restaurants, hotels and shops will follow, he said. Minster of Tourism Thong Khon agreed, saying that there eventually will be four roads leading to the temple and at least one key artery will be completed by next year. "I already sent a letter to the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation to push for the road construction," he said. The first sign of things to come actually preceded UNESCOs decision; in May the newly formed Preah Vihear National Authority, or PVNA, deployed 22 heritage police. Hang Soth, director of the PVNA, a commission under the Council of Ministers, said the heritage police are charged with protecting the site from looting and vandalism. He also said that the Thai border crossing at Preah Vihear will remain closed until Thai nationalist fervor simmers down, a worry he blamed on opposition activists in Bangkok. "We respect our neighbor and the neighboring nation respects us," he said. But in Thailand, bruised nationalism remains unappeased, and the government of Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej is suffering from the fallout. On July 10, Thai Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama stepped down after the Constitutional Court ruled that he had acted illegally in signing an agreement supporting Cambodias bid to have Preah Vihear temple listed as a World Heritage Site without the permission of parliament. His move had been approved by Samaks cabinet, which the court also decided had violated the Thai Constitution in acting without parliamentary consent, a verdict that observers said could lead to a major cabinet reshuffle. In his emotional resignation speech, Noppadon maintained he had acted in good faith in signing the agreement with Cambodia. "I insist I have done nothing wrong. I have not sold the country out. Máy ảnh kỹ thuật số - K20D - ‘dũng sĩ thiện chiến’ của Pentax (1)

Với chiếc DSRL K20D, Pentax đã chuyển qua sử dụng chip CMOS 14,6 Megapixel, nhiều hơn về số điểm ảnh so với những model “đàn anh” như Canon EOS 40D hay Nikon D300.

Thị trường máy ảnh số ống kính rời gần đây có xu hướng dịch chuyển qua sử dụng cảm biến CMOS. Tuy Pentax vẫn sử dụng cảm biến CCD cho chiếc tầm thấp K200D, nhưng với chiếc K20D đầu bảng của mình, Pentax hiện chuyển qua sử dụng chip CMOS 14,6 Megapixel.

Xét về số điểm ảnh, chiếc 20D đã vượt lên trên một số model đắt tiền hơn của các hãng khác. Đơn cử chiếc Canon EOS 40D với giá tương đương chỉ có 10,1 Megapixel, chiếc Sony’s Alpha DSLR-A700 với cảm biến 12,24 Megapixel và thậm chí đắt tiền hơn là chiếc Nikon D200 cũng có 12,3M mà thôi.

Thực tế là cả K10D và K20D sử dụng chung 1 tay nắm dọc. Ngoài ra, màn hình LCD đã được nâng cấp từ 2,5 lên 2,7 inch. Sự thay đổi đáng kể trong thiết kế thân máy là có thêm khe cắm PC giúp nối máy ảnh với đèn studio. Do chiếc K10D không có tính năng này, vì vậy K20D có là rất tốt, mặc dù không biết có bao nhiêu người thực sự tận dụng được tính năng nói trên.

Thiết kế thân máy cũ và mới giống nhau là một điểm tốt bởi dù gì thì kiểu thiết kế của 10D vẫn có nhiều người mê mẩn. Thân máy nhỏ hơn chút xíu đối với dòng tầm trung, làm cho việc mang vác trở nên dễ dàng hơn. 2 bánh xe ở phía ngón cái và ngón trỏ để chỉnh tốc độ và khẩu độ ở chế độ hoàn toàn chỉnh tay (manual). Rõ ràng 2 bánh xe thì thuận tiện hơn nhiều so với chỉ có một cái ở dòng máy khởi điểm; vì phải vừa bấm một nút vừa xoay.

Pentax cũng có rất nhiều phím bấm và điều khiển cho các tính năng khác nhau nên bạn không phải vào tận trong menu để chỉnh các thông số chính trong khi đang thao tác chụp. Nút chuyển AF nằm ở mặt trước trái của thân máy, ngay đằng sau miệng ống kính. Nút chuyển này có 3 chế độ trong đó chế độ lấy nét tay ở dưới cùng và trên cùng là chế độ tự động lấy nét cho mỗi lần chụp (single-shot AF). Bố trí này giúp cho việc chuyển qua chỉnh tay nhanh chóng, dễ dàng khi muốn chủ động hơn trong các trường hợp chụp cần tính nghệ thuật. Một số tùy chỉnh khác bị giấu ở trong menu nhưng với nút chỉnh 4 chiều thì chỉ vài cú bấm là tới.

Giống như người anh em rẻ tiền hơn K10D, chiếc K20D có khả năng chịu thời tiết, dĩ nhiên bạn sẽ trông đợi tính năng này phải ưu việt hơn so với dòng khởi điểm.

Cục pin xạc Lithium-ion của K20D với dung lượng 1.620 mAh cho phép chụp tới 530 kiểu với 50% có đèn flash cho một lần sạc và có thể lên tới 740 kiểu nếu không dùng flash. Dĩ nhiên là chưa thể so với chiếc Canon 40D với 800 có 50% flash hoặc 1.100 không flash.

Một trong số các chế độ chụp khá thời thượng của Pentax là chế độ ưu tiên độ nhạy sáng. Đó là chế độ người dùng tự chọn ISO và để cho máy chọn tốc độ cửa trập và khẩu độ tùy theo độ nhạy bạn quy định. Chế độ này cũng hữu ích nếu bạn biết bạn phải nâng ISO để có được tốc độ chụp đủ nhanh để bắt dính chuyển động, nhưng cũng muốn ISO thấp ở mức có thể. Thậm chí khi trong menu bạn để mức thay đổi ISO là một bước thì ở chế độ ưu tiên độ nhạy, bạn cũng có thể chỉnh chỉ nhảy một phần ba bước mà thôi, vì vậy sẽ dễ dàng tinh chỉnh độ nhạy khi cần.

Để theo kịp các xu hướng máy DSLR năm nay, Pentax đã đưa vào chế độ Enhanced Dynamic Range (tăng cường dãy tương phản) – giúp cân chỉnh lại ngưỡng sáng tối để có thể thêm được một chút chi tiết ở khu vực sáng của bức ảnh. Kết quả cũng tinh tế nhưng rõ ràng là chế độ này có hoạt động. Ở chiếc K20, kết quả cũng không dễ nhận ra như chế độ Highlight Tone Priority (Uu tiên tông sáng) của Canon. Olympus cũng có một tính năng tương đương gọi là Shadow Adjustment Technology (công nghệ cân chỉnh vùng tối), vậy nhưng Olympus xếp tính năng này cùng với các chế độ đo sáng, trong khi Pentax lại nhập nó vào khu vực ISO của menu Fn. chức năng Dynamic Range Optimizer (tối ưu hóa dãy tương phản) của Sony và D-Lighting của Nikon cũng đóng vai trò bảo tồn một số chi tiết ở vùng tối nhất và sáng nhất của hình tuy tính năng này chỉ là hiệu chỉnh kiểu phần mềm - được làm sau khi hình đã được chụp thay vì ngay trong khi chụp.

Cũng tương tự như các máy DSLR đương thời của Pentax, chiếc K20D sử dụng các ống kính miệng ống loại K.

Và vì vậy K20D có thể sử dụng được hầu hết các ống của Pentax. Nếu bạn định mua thêm một chiếc adapter (để lắp ống loại ren khác) trên eBay, thì bạn có thể sử dụng những loại ống miệng xoáy (như dòng nổi tiếng M42) sản xuất từ những năm 60 của thế kỷ trước.

Nếu bạn muốn sở hữu thêm một đèn flash gắn ngoài nữa, chắc hẳn bạn sẽ thích một ưu điểm đó là K20D có bộ phận điều khiển flash không dây sẵn trong máy. Chiếc K20D cho phép bạn sử dụng đèn flash của máy để kích hoạt đèn flash rời các loại AF540FGZ và AF360FGZ. Bạn không thể lập nhóm các đèn hoặc đặt các công suất đánh đèn khác nhau cho từng chiếc, nhưng bạn có thể điều khiển lượng sáng của flash bằng cách thiết lập mức độ trên máy một cách thuận tiện tại menu Fn. Ngoài ra, bạn cũng có thể sử dụng flash trên máy đồng thời với một hoặc nhiều flash không dây, hoặc bạn có thể chỉ sử dụng flash trên máy chỉ để điều khiển các flash không dây mà thôi. Nếu bạn vẫn còn băn khoăn thì có thể giải thích thế này: flash không dây phối hợp tốt với hệ thống đo sáng P-TTL flash metering của Pentax (Đo sáng qua ống kính – rất chính xác).
